Product Description:

The Molas NL series represents an advanced nacelle wind lidar system, independently developed by our company with a focus on intelligent wind power applications. This cutting-edge device functions as a laser-based remote sensing instrument, installed atop the wind turbine nacelle. Utilizing a coherent detection framework grounded in the principle of laser Doppler frequency shift, the system emits laser pulses and analyzes backscattered signals from atmospheric aerosols. This process enables it to provide highly accurate vector wind field measurements at distances varying by model: from 50 m to 200 m for the NL200, 400 m for the NL400, 500 m for the NL500, and between 70 m to 750 m for the NL750 ahead of the rotor plane.

Capable of supporting up to 10 simultaneous measurement layers with a data refresh rate of 4 Hz, the Molas NL series offers impressive precision. It delivers wind speed accuracy of 0.1 m/s and wind direction accuracy of ±0.5°, allowing it to capture dynamic wind changes effectively. The lidar comes with four beam configurations, all featuring a horizontal angle of 30°. The vertical angle varies by model, set at 25° or 10° for the NL200, and 10° for the NL400, NL500, and NL750 models, ensuring comprehensive spatial coverage that adapts to different turbine and site conditions.

Integration with the turbine’s main control system is seamless, thanks to compatibility with multiple industrial communication protocols such as Profibus DP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and CANOPEN. This connectivity facilitates advanced feed-forward control strategies, allowing real-time wind preview data to help the turbine adjust pitch and yaw proactively before the wind reaches the rotor. As a result, the system significantly reduces both extreme and fatigue loads, while boosting annual energy production (AEP). Beyond feed-forward control, the Molas NL series is essential for functions such as yaw misalignment correction, power curve verification—serving as a replacement for traditional meteorological masts—wake detection and analysis, and intelligent cooperative control across wind farm fleets.

Engineered to operate reliably under harsh environmental conditions, the system features an optical head rated at IP67 and a data processing unit rated at IP65. Its corrosion resistance meets ISO C5 standards, making it suitable for offshore, onshore, as well as high-humidity and salt-spray environments. The operating temperature range spans from -40 °C to +60 °C, with survival capabilities extending from -40 °C to +65 °C during power outages, and from -45 °C to +65 °C when powered. Additionally, it can withstand survival wind speeds up to 75 m/s and function at altitudes reaching 3,500 m. The optical head is lightweight, weighing no more than 17.5 kg, while the data unit weighs up to 3.6 kg, simplifying installation and reducing crane-related expenses.

Combining robust design, exceptional accuracy, and flexible connectivity, the Molas NL series transcends the role of a mere wind measurement device. It stands as the foundation of smart wind farm operations, empowering operators to achieve higher operational efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage in the evolving renewable energy sector.
