Product Description:

Molas 3D: Advanced 3D Doppler Wind Lidar System

The Molas 3D represents a cutting-edge three-dimensional scanning Doppler wind measurement lidar. It is developed based on the principle of pulsed laser coherent Doppler frequency shift technology. This sophisticated system emits pulsed laser beams and analyzes the frequency shifts of the backscattered signals reflected from atmospheric aerosols. By doing so, it accurately calculates the wind speed and direction along multiple lines of sight, enabling the reconstruction of high-resolution 3D wind fields across various spatial points.

To meet diverse measurement needs, the Molas 3D offers a wide range of scanning modes:

  • PPI (Plan Position Indicator): This mode performs horizontal sector scans or full 360° sweeps, making it ideal for mapping wind patterns over extended areas.
  • RHI (Range Height Indicator): By scanning vertically, it captures wind profiles and boundary layer structures at different elevations.
  • DBS (Doppler Beam Swinging): Utilizing multi-beam fixed-direction scanning, this mode accurately retrieves horizontal wind vectors as well as vertical velocity components.
  • Program Scan: Users can define custom scanning trajectories, providing maximum flexibility for specialized research applications.

The system boasts a maximum acquisition distance of up to 15 km and a sight detection range of 10 km at an altitude of 600 meters. Vertically, it can measure winds up to 4 km in height. Distance resolution is configurable, offering options of 15 m, 30 m, 75 m, or 120 m and supporting up to 300 measurement layers. The wind speed range along the line of sight extends from -75 m/s to +75 m/s, with a precision of 0.1 m/s. Its scanning head provides 360° horizontal rotation and vertical tilt capabilities from -10° to 190°, achieving a pointing accuracy of ±0.005°, which guarantees highly reliable and repeatable data acquisition.

Designed for a variety of demanding applications, the Molas 3D caters to:

  • Offshore Wind Resource Assessment: It offers precise wind mapping over marine areas where conventional meteorological masts are either impractical or highly expensive.
  • Complex Terrain Analysis: The system enables detailed investigation of wind flow over mountainous, hilly, and valley regions where wind behavior is often irregular.
  • Wind Turbine Wake Detection: It visualizes wake deficits and turbulence downstream of turbines to help optimize wind farm layouts and reduce structural loads.
  • Airport Glide Path Wind Shear Monitoring: Providing early warnings of hazardous wind shear along aircraft approach paths, the system contributes to enhanced aviation safety.
  • Urban Meteorological Observation: It captures wind dynamics within urban canyons, facilitating city planning and pollution dispersion studies.
  • High-Altitude Turbulence Detection: The Molas 3D monitors atmospheric turbulence at elevated altitudes, supporting both aviation operations and climate research.

Built for robust performance in harsh environments, the system operates reliably within a temperature range from -40°C to +60°C and tolerates humidity levels between 0% and 95% RH (non-condensing). The external housing is rated IP65, while internal components comply with IP66 standards. Data can be stored locally for periods ranging from 5 to 18 months in standard .csv format. Data transmission is achieved via 1000BASE-TX Ethernet or remote 4G access. Additionally, the output interfaces include Profibus DP, Modbus TCP, and CAN bus options, allowing smooth integration with a variety of control and data acquisition systems.

Combining robust capabilities, flexible scanning modes, and extensive application versatility, the Molas 3D stands out as a premier instrument for advanced wind measurement and atmospheric research. It empowers industries and researchers alike to make informed, data-driven decisions with confidence.
