Product Description

Product Description:

Molas 3D: Advanced 3D Scanning Doppler Wind Lidar

The Molas 3D represents a cutting-edge three-dimensional scanning Doppler wind measurement lidar. It operates on the principle of pulsed laser coherent Doppler frequency shift technology. By emitting pulsed laser beams and detecting the frequency shifts in backscattered signals from atmospheric aerosols, the system accurately computes the line-of-sight wind speed and direction across multiple spatial points. This enables high-resolution reconstruction of three-dimensional wind fields.

To cater to diverse measurement needs, the Molas 3D offers a variety of scanning modes:

  • PPI (Plan Position Indicator): Provides horizontal sector or full 360° scanning, ideal for mapping wind fields over extensive areas.
  • RHI (Range Height Indicator): Conducts vertical elevation scans, perfect for capturing vertical wind profiles and boundary layer structures.
  • DBS (Doppler Beam Swinging): Utilizes multi-beam fixed-direction scanning to accurately retrieve horizontal wind vectors and vertical velocity.
  • Program Scan: Allows user-defined custom scanning trajectories, offering exceptional flexibility for specialized research scenarios.

The Molas 3D boasts a maximum acquisition distance of up to 15 km, with a sight detection range reaching 10 km at an altitude of 600 meters. Its vertical measurement capability extends to 4 km and supports configurable distance resolutions of 15 m, 30 m, 75 m, or 120 m, accommodating up to 300 distance layers. The system measures line-of-sight wind speeds within a range of -75 m/s to +75 m/s, maintaining an accuracy of 0.1 m/s. Its scanning head allows for a full 360° horizontal rotation and vertical tilting from -10° to 190°, with a precise pointing accuracy of ±0.005°, ensuring consistent and reliable measurements.

Designed to meet the demands of various applications, the Molas 3D excels in:

  • Offshore Wind Resource Assessment: Facilitates accurate wind mapping over marine areas where installing traditional meteorological masts is challenging or expensive.
  • Complex Terrain Research: Enables detailed analysis of wind behavior over mountains, hills, and valleys with highly variable wind patterns.
  • Wind Turbine Wake Detection: Visualizes and assesses wake deficits and turbulence downstream of wind turbines to optimize turbine placement and reduce structural fatigue.
  • Airport Glide Path Wind Shear Warning: Provides timely alerts of dangerous wind shear conditions along aircraft approach routes, enhancing flight safety.
  • Urban Meteorological Observation: Captures wind dynamics within urban environments, assisting city planners and pollution control efforts.
  • High-Altitude Turbulence Detection: Monitors atmospheric turbulence at elevated altitudes to support aviation operations and climate research.

The system is built to reliably operate under harsh environmental conditions, with an operational temperature range from -40°C to +60°C and humidity tolerance between 0% and 95% RH (non-condensing). Its enclosure is rated as IP65, while internal components meet IP66 standards for protection. Data can be stored locally for durations ranging from 5 to 18 months in standard .csv format. Communication options include 1000BASE-TX Ethernet and 4G remote access. Additionally, output interfaces such as Profibus DP, Modbus TCP, and CAN are available, facilitating smooth integration with various control and data acquisition systems.

Thanks to its robust performance, adaptable scanning features, and wide applicability, the Molas 3D serves as a premier solution for advanced wind measurement and atmospheric research. It empowers industries and researchers to make informed, data-driven decisions with confidence.
